AVID
AVID is designed to equip, support, and inspire you as you pursue your college/career dream. The mission of AVID is to "close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. This course offers a challenging curriculum that exposes students to college-level reading, discussions, and writing assignments in an attempt to develop students' academic skills. In addition to academic skill development, students learn about the college/university system, research careers and receive academic support in their current course work from college tutors. AVID students are encouraged to get involved in school leadership, athletics, clubs, and other extracurricular activities. Getting involved in the school and the local community helps shape students into responsible participants and leaders. Students are taught the importance of maintaining a competitive GPA and how to effectively manage their time so they graduate from Hanshaw better prepared for the expectations of high school and college.
This course is designed for ANY student who wants to have a career or go to college.
